Although it was launched a decade ago, many businesses are still operating on Windows 7. However, the time has come to take the plunge and update software systems to Windows 10. Here are the first five key reasons to update.

Support

Perhaps the biggest incentive to make the upgrade is the
fact that Microsoft will be ending support for Windows 7 on 14 January 2020. If
you do not update, your Windows 7 PC will still boot up and continue to function,
however, there will not be any support available. Additionally, your PC will be
more vulnerable to security risks and viruses as there will be no further security
updates. Moreover, if a large number of users continue to use Windows 7, there is
a possibility that malicious users will be encouraged to target Windows 7. With
no tech support and no further software updates, Windows 7 will quickly become
outdated and obsolete, so the upgrade to Windows 10 is essential.

Security

Windows 10 has some impressive new features with the aim of
protecting your identity and your data. Windows Defender has various tools to
help protect your data. Defender Security Centre Tool gives you an overview of
the security health of your PC. It allows you to approve which apps can access
and change files on your PC or the cloud. Defender Exploit Guard scans for,
quarantines and removes malware, whilst Defender Antivirus, evidently, is built-in
antivirus protection. Businesses also have the option to subscribe to Windows
Defender Advanced Threat Protection, which is a sophisticated, cloud-based
service for managing security threats across your business PCs. Additionally,
Windows Hello uses biometrics to log in, so you don’t have to worry about
passwords being compromised. Finally, Device Guard ensures that your device
only runs applications that it has deemed trustworthy.

Performance

Despite using the same hardware as Windows 7, tests have shown
that Windows 10 is faster across the board. This means that it has faster boot
up and sleep times, as well as faster transition between apps. As I’ve
mentioned countless times, Windows 7 will no longer be receiving updates or support.
This means that, in terms of performance, it is frozen. Windows 10, on the
other hand, is continually updating and it will only progress, meaning that the
performance will only improve with time. Windows 10’s power management is also
more efficient than Windows 7, resulting in longer battery life.

Efficient Updates

Microsoft have introduced Unified Update Platform (UUP)
which streamlines the update process. It identifies changes in Windows 10 and downloads
only those which your PC requires. Microsoft say that this can reduce the size of
downloads by up to 35%. It also makes the way devices check for updates more efficient
by reducing the update data sent to users. Checking for updates and the updates
themselves happen behind the scenes so you can continue using your PC as normal
without interruption.

Edge Browser

Edge browser is becoming steady competition with Chrome and
Firefox. It is just as fast, if not faster than its competitors. Its clean
interface is easy to navigate and useful tools allow you to preview, group and
save tabs. You can find, manage and open tabs without leaving the page you’re
on. The Notes tool also allows you to highlight phrases on websites and save it
so you can come back to it later. Your Edge browser is synced over all your Windows
10 devices so your settings, search history and bookmarks are available to you wherever
you are. Using Edge over other browsers will allegedly extend your battery
life. Windows 10’s security features
work seamlessly with Edge, so you are protected against phishing schemes and
malware.

On a side note, I’m assuming that an upgrade to Windows 10
will be from Windows 7. If you’re still running XP, please, for my sake if not your
own, consider your situation and upgrade immediately.

If your business is ready to upgrade to Windows 10, call us
on +44 203 034
2244 or +1 323 984 8908 Alternately, you
can contact us online.
