The UK Hospitality Summer Conference 2018 took place this year on the 9th of July 2018 at The Grand Connaught Rooms in Covent Garden, London. It brought together some of the most senior figures in the hospitality and tourism industry, as well as key government representatives, with a view to discussing areas that affect those in the hotel, restaurant, food, leisure, pub and bars sectors.
The Cardonet team visited to better understand the challenges facing the industry in 2018 and to meet some of those senior figures.
Under the slogan of “Shaping the Future”, the talks ranged from the current state of affairs in the industry, to the effect of Brexit. The seminars included highlighting the barriers and opportunities for future growth and innovation, to how the UK government can help going forward. The update from Michael Ellis, the UK Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, was particularly interesting. It was also really interesting to learn about the industry from an investor’s point of view.
We felt that the panel from hospitality food and drink businesses tackled the issues facing high street restaurants, bars, travel hubs and hotels came up with some very thought provoking insight and arguments.
Effective, robust and secure Hotel IT Solutions, Restaurant IT Solutions and Pub and Bar IT Solutions all had their part to play going forward, but the main focus of the day was on bigger current issues such as Brexit and the potential impact it will have on attracting the people that the industry desperately needs to be successful.
We felt it was a great day for the industry and we look forward to meeting up with everyone again next year. We should have a better idea of what Brexit means to the hospitality industry by then.
